Personal Profile
Jack Hurst
BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy

Experience

I have had experience at a variety of hospitals with in and out-patients witnessing physiotherapists diagnose, assess, manage and treat injuries.

I had a placement working at Severn Stars Netball, assessing initial and follow up injuries, strapping, taping, soft tissue work and designing rehabilitation plans for elite pathway athletes.

Also, I worked in the University of Worcester American Football team, performing pitch-side first aid and trauma management. This included assessment of injuries, notably concussion and return to play programs.

During my final year of university I worked within the on site injury clinic, where I assessed, treated and rehabilitated injuries under the guidance of the university lecturing staff.

I have also shadowed within professional Sports Therapy clinics, witnessing injury management and practicing skills. I also gave massages at an ultra-marathon event.
University

I completed my degree in 2023 at the University of Worcester receiving a 2:1 in Sports Therapy.

Some key modules of the course included Functional Anatomy, Sports Rehabilitation, Manual Therapy and Clinical Practice where I was able to showcase the latest Sports Therapy techniques.

I also received an A+ for my dissertation on The effect of Strength Training on Running Technique and Injury Prevention in Endurance Runners.

I was employed in my third year as a Student Learning and Teaching Assistant. I assisted the lecturer with teaching and educating, helping aid the development of Sports Therapy students in their first year.

I enjoyed competing in Athletics, and being part of the University Athletics committee as the Vice-Chair of Inclusivity and Promotions.

Sporting life

Sports has always been an important part of my life, it helps to improve both my physical and mental health.

I have played a variety of sports, from many years of Rugby, to having a shot at football, then gaining a passion for running.

I have previously competed for Leicestershire in cross-country, I then focused more on track running. I competed in events such as the 1500m and 3000m. My future ambitions are to compete in triathlons and to run the London marathon.

As a participating athlete myself, I understand the importance of being able to do what you love without any physical or mental barriers.

I have had my fair share of injuries, which gave me an understanding of the importance of quick rehabilitation and prevention of re-injury. I strive to help my clients get back to performing at their best. I work closely with each individual to ensure they are able to recover quickly and effectively, so they can get back to doing what they love.
